Trek Predux

There's a new "Star Trek" coming to theaters this May... well it is sort of new (actors, writers, etc.), and sort of old (Kirk, Spock, etc.). As a fan of the original series and the even numbered films (Khan, the whales, The Undiscovered Country), and some of the other films and series, I was more than a little curious when I heard there was going to be a new film project starring the original characters. This redux (or predux since it takes place slightly before the original series), to my surprise will be helmed by J. J. Abrams, a 42 years young director/producer known mainly for his TV projects "Alias" and "Lost." Abrams came to my attention when I read a portion of his 2002 script for a new Superman film he was also slated to direct. It was wildly different than the Christopher Reeve film stories and nothing like the Bryan Singer-directed "Superman Returns" which was ultimately selected by the studio. I would have loved to have seen his Superman script as a movie (Kryptonian civil war, fathers and sons fighting together, etc.), and I wanted to at least check out the trailer for the new "Star Trek."

New Spock? New Kirk? What will the Enterprise look like? What will the voice of the computer (mainframe of course), sound like? We'll have to wait to see if they get the characters and the "science and physics" right in the movie, but based on the trailer I'll be there May 8th with my buttered popcorn, Buncha Crunch and large Diet Coke. How about you?

The trailer looks great- must have spent a good amount on this production…
